What happens when your pinning service changes
Fleek shut down IPFS hosting
January 2026. Fleek discontinued their IPFS hosting. Users had to migrate CIDs or lose access.
NFT.Storage Classic ended free pinning
June 2024. NFT.Storage Classic stopped accepting new uploads and ended free pinning. Existing data stayed accessible, but users had to migrate to paid partners.

We store your pinned content as erasure-coded fragments across independent Sia hosts. Hosts submit storage proofs to receive payment. No proof, no pay. If hosts go offline, the network repairs from remaining fragments.

How is this different from regular cloud storage?+
Cloud storage gives you a file path. IPFS pinning gives you a content address (CID). The CID is a cryptographic hash of your content. If the content changes, the CID changes. This makes it verifiable and portable across providers.
Is my data permanent?+
CIDs are permanent hashes; they always point to the same content. But availability requires active pinning. If you stop paying or unpin, your content can become unavailable. We don't claim 'permanent' or 'forever' storage.
What happens if I unpin something?+
Unpinned content may remain cached on gateways temporarily, but it's no longer guaranteed. For content you need to stay available, keep it pinned and your account active.

I'm using another pinning service. Can I migrate?+
Yes. Pin your existing CIDs directly with `pinner pin <cid>`. Your CIDs don't change when you switch providers.
How is Sia different from IPFS-native pinning?+
Most pinning services store your files on centralized servers and make them available via IPFS. Pinner stores them on the Sia network, a distributed storage protocol with cryptographic storage proofs. Your content is verifiably stored across independent hosts.
What if my pinned content goes offline?+
Your pins are copied across multiple independent Sia hosts. Individual hosts can go offline, but your content stays available from others as long as your account is active.
Can I use Pinner with a CDN?+
Yes. Pin your content to get a CID, then use a CDN or gateway for fast delivery. Pinner handles storage and the CDN handles speed.
